Tooth Colored Fillings
When we smile, we want to smile with confidence. Historically, dentistry has used silver amalgam fillings which have poor esthetics and the FDA has recently advised against its use due to mercury concerns. These together have fueled the increased quality of tooth colored fillings, also known as resin composites. These newer generations of materials are strong, esthetic, and have shifted away from containing BPA materials, making them the best choice for conservative restorations when treating decay.
Crowns
Crowns, also known as caps, are restorations that serve many purposes. They serve to prevent tooth fracture, replace large fillings at risk of failure, improve esthetics, rehab function, and restore dimensions when a tooth has excessive wear or breakdown. Of the crowns, there are two we use in the office:
Emax is a tooth colored crown which is very strong and often indicated when we have limited tooth structure and need high strength adherence to the tooth to prevent the crown from debonding.
Zirconia is a tooth colored crown that is extremely popular due to its overall strength and resistance to breakage, the body’s acceptance to the material, and the patient's ability to keep hygienic.
Bridges
Bridges are similar to a crown in the sense of its material and fabrication, however, its purpose typically revolves around replacing a missing tooth. Nowadays, we try to replace missing teeth with an implant, but not every case meets the requirements for various reasons. Thus, bridges are a great alternative to restoring areas where teeth are missing. If there is a missing tooth or teeth, we can crown/cap the areas with teeth, use them as support, and bridge or connect the gap with crowns that sit over the toothless areas. Bridges can achieve chewing ability and quality esthetics to smile about.
Dentures and Partials
In cases where a considerable amount of teeth are missing, or implants and bridges are not ideal, we can proceed with a complete denture or a partial denture, depending on the case:
When missing all of one's teeth, a complete denture has historically been the standard of care. A complete denture can serve to aid with smiling, jaw esthetics and fullness, chewing, speech, and all around confidence.
When we still have a certain amount of teeth that are considered stable and healthy, we can go the route of a partial denture. Partial dentures will replace the various missing teeth while relying on the remaining teeth for support and function. This is a great treatment for regaining esthetics, function, and all around confidence.
Bleaching
Our office can help you achieve the white smile you desire. A bleaching solution is placed inside a tray that has been custom made from a mold of your teeth. In a short time and at your convenience, you are able to achieve a beautiful bright whiter smile.
Some specific considerations would be if there are existing restorations on your front teeth, as they will not change in color. if this is the case, bleaching your teeth will cause discrepancies in the color scheme of your smile.
