Adult Dentistry

Dentistry has been an incredible profession to promote and further our overall health by means of prevention, intervention, and maintenance. Though we wish our teeth and past dental work can bear the years of stress and wear, often we find new concerns as we progress through life. Therefore, seeing your dental team regularly will help bring full circle your specific needs to maintain your well-being.

Young Adult Dentistry

As a young adult, there are many aspects of life that require attention and detail. With much of your future seeming far, it’s tough to imagine how a dental concern can affect your lifestyle and health down the road. As it is always important to maintain a proper home care regiment, making time for a dental visit will keep you updated with your oral health and help you to make informed decisions that will have dramatic impacts for your life to come.

Orthodontic screenings

While we develop, so do our jaws. Tracking our development and providing intervention when needed can aid in so many different aspects. Such considerations would be proper tooth development and alignment, ease of cleaning our mouths and preventing disease, promoting ideal speech and phonetics, and developing sufficient airways and anatomical features. Orthodontic screenings can go a long way when done during the proper stages of our lives.

Wisdom tooth screenings

As we grow older and a little wiser, we get our last set of teeth, our third set of molars, aka our wisdom teeth. On most occasions, our wisdom teeth have trouble coming in straight and can cause pain while erupting from the bone and gums. They also pose risk of infection, further decay to themselves or neighboring teeth, and in rare occasions, pathological events. It is for these reasons that we want to track the progression of our wisdom teeth to best predict their challenges before they present themselves as problems.

Considerations

We always want to be instilling the best habits in our children. Strong habits with a toothbrush and floss will go a long way. Here are some quick tips to maintain healthy dentition for teenagers:

  • Be aware of what you are snacking on and how often. Frequent snacking and consistently introducing sugary foods like refined snack foods will lead to high levels of plaque, thus causing tooth decay and gum disease.

  • Night owl? Make sure you brush your teeth before hitting the pillow. Plaque accumulates throughout the day and going to bed without brushing will create a Petri dish for bacteria.

  • Floss at least once a day. Maintaining gum health will ensure long term success that the foundation our teeth are built upon will last into our golden years.

  • Be weary sharing utensils, drinks, or other oral devices. In our younger years, we are still developing the natural bacteria that will cultivate our mouths for a lifetime. Introducing harmful bacteria or viruses can lead to constant battles for proper oral health.

  • See your dental team every six months. Regular visits will aid in overall oral health, hygiene reinforcement, and catch any signs of early decay. Plus, it builds trust and rapport in having a strong dental team by your side for years to come.
